Important Checkpoints during Commissioning of Pumpset.

Hi Friends!!!

Once the installation is done in the correct manner , we need to check few points before starting/commissioning the pumpsets. Below are the important Checkpoints during Commissioning of Pumpset.

  1. Free Rotation of the pump with hand.
  2. Direction of rotation of Prime mover in coordination with pump’s direction of rotation.
  3. If the pump is mechanical seal fitted , then whether locks are removed or not.
  4. Coupling locking bolts need to be removed.
  5. Bearings need to be oiled/greased.
  6. Coupling bolts needs to be properly tightened.
  7. Pump should be fully primed/or submerged incase of submersible pump.
  8. Gland packing should be checked whether it is new or old. Incase pump is supplied from stock.
  9. External Flushing/Quenching Connections to be provided incase of mechanical seal.
  10. Suction / Delivery pressure gauge readings to be taken.
  11. Pump and Motor bearing temperatures should be within limits.
  12. Checking of RPM during running condition.
  13. Motor Load Current to be measured.
  14. To check if any abnormal Vibration/Noise. — If possible to take readings.
  15. To note down pump running hours.

Most important point is to check Pumpset alignment before starting the pump. If the readings are not within limits then don’t start the pump.

I hope these points will be useful to you’ll while operating the pumpset.

Important Checkpoints during Installation.

Hi Friends. In this post i am going to give a very important Checklist for Installation of the pumpsets which if followed properly then majority of the problems will be eliminated.

Below are the important Check Points during Installation.

  1. Foundation has to be wider and Longer than the Base Frame.
  2. Foundation is sufficiently Rigid to Absorb Vibrations and Set Load.
  3. Base Plate is fully filled with Grouted Cement.
  4. Pumpset/Surface Plate is Leveled within Limit.
  5. Holding Bolts of the Pumpset are tightened properly.
  6. Sufficient space is provided for proper maintenance of the pump and sufficient ventilation is required to avoid heating.
  7. Proper Suction condition ie Suction lift , suction head , Min Submergence is given to the pump.
  8. Suction and Delivery Size has to be as per the recommendation from Pump manufacturer
  9. Suction and Delivery Pipes need to be properly supported to ensure pump is free from Stresses or strains.
  10. Eccentric type reducer to be used at suction inorder to avoid formation of air pockets.
  11. NRV and Gate valve to be provided at Discharge side.
  12. Foot Valve to be given in case the pump is having negative suction.
  13. Strainer to be given in suction pipe to avoid damage to pump impeller due to solids.
  14. Pressure Gauge to be installed at suction and discharge pipe line. THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT POINT WHICH TROUBLESHOOTING.
  15. Insulation Resistance(IR Value) of motor to be measured.

These are important points related to pumpset installation. In my next blog i will post important check points during commissioning of the pump.

Hope you found my post useful!!!!
